No. 5 Adelphi rolls past Bentley
Vitale scores six goals to lead the Panthers past the Falcons
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. -- No. 5 Adelphi used a seven goal first period to kick things off and would go on to put in another 10 scores while holding Bentley scoreless in two of the four quarters. At the end of 60 minutes of play, Adelphi came out on top of a 17-4 score. With the win, the Panthers move to 12-2, 8-2 NE-10 while the Falcons drop to 5-8, 5-5 NE-10.
Bryan Hall got the Panthers rolling with two opening game scores on feeds from Joe Vitale and Shane Wynn, giving Adelphi a quick 2-0 lead just 2:37 in. Wynn then extended the lead further on a successful unassisted shot to make it a three goal game. Vitale found the back of the cage twice while Joe Celano and Hall also tacked on one goal apiece, capping the first period, seven goal run.
Nearly three minutes into the second, Steve Caditz finally got the Falcons on the board as he beat Eric Janssen for their first goal. Kieran Riegel (2g) responded with his first of two goals to bring the cushion back up to seven.
Two more goals by Riegel and Doug Quednau, and a Falcon goal off the stick of Riley Merritt before halftime hit made it a 10-3 game.
In the third, Adelphi went on to score four more goals, three of which came from Vitale with the fourth coming from Quednau to push the score to push a 14-3 lead while the Falcons were shut down and held scoreless.
Vitale, Jamie McAndrew and Nick Olson rounded out the goals in the fourth with Bentley's Mike Carter tacking on his team's fourth and final goal with just three seconds left on the game clock.
All three Panther goalies saw action with Janssen earning his 12th game of the season as he saw 38:23 minutes in net, made five saves and allowed just three goals while Adian Bennardo also made five goals in 16:47 minutes in cage and did not allow a goal. Keith McDermott rounded out the final 4:50 and made one save.
For the Falcons, Brian Karl played 42:25 in net, made 13 saves and allowed 14 goals as he took the loss.
