GREENSBURG, Pa. — Eighth-ranked Seton Hill will carry a four-game winning streak into its season finale on Saturday. The Griffins extended their win streak by earning a 16-7 victory at Lake Erie on Wednesday evening. SHU improves to 11-4 overall and 6-3 in East Coast play.
Seton Hill jumped out to a 3-0 first-quarter lead on goals by Matt Delmonico, Jimmy Delaney and Dylan Lefebrve. Lake Erie closed out the first quarter scoring and trailed 3-1 after one.
Lake Erie scored 15 seconds into the second to cut the lead to 3-2 but Greg Chaples and Kevin Welty answered with goals to push the Seton Hill lead back to 5-2. Lake Erie scored once again to cut the lead to 5-3 but Delaney and Welty scored before the break and SHU led 7-3 going into the locker room at the half.
The Griffins scored five of the first six goals of the third quarter to extend their lead to 12-4 with 8:10 to play in the third. Lake Erie scored the final two of the third and trailed 12-6 after three. Seton Hill closed out the game with a 4-1 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Jimmy Delaney and Dylan Lefebrve led the offense with thee goals and one assist apiece. Kevin Welty, Greg Chaples, Matt Delmonico and Dylan Gelven each scored twice, while Chris Ilse made seven saves in net. Delmonico tied the SHU single-season record with 44 goals and eclipsed 100 career points in the win. Head coach Brian Novotny also recorded his 50th win at Seton Hill in the process.
