WALTHAM, Mass. — Freshman Matt Brigham scored four goals to lead Bentley to a 15-3 victory against American International in the Falcons’ Northeast-10 opener Sunday afternoon.
Bentley led from nearly start to finish to earn its first win of the season and to improve its record to 1-1 overall. The Yellow Jackets fell to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the NE-10.
Brigham got started early, scoring just 3:03 into the first quarter with Steve Caditz on the assist, one of four on the day for him. The Falcons scored three more times in the last 3:11 of the first quarter, and twice in the last 56 seconds, to lead 4-1 after 15 minutes.
Bentley outscored the Yellow Jackets 4-0 in the second quarter to lead 8-1 at halftime. Brigham scored the first goal of the quarter in a man-up situation. Doug Mahony had a goal in the quarter and junior Jason Knight had two.
AIC got the first goal of the second half from Jeff Sienkiewicz at the 10:05 mark to cut the deficit to 8-2. They temporarily kept Bentley off the scoreboard until Brigham scored two more just 38 seconds apart toward the end of the quarter to give the Falcons a 10-2 lead heading into the fourth.
Bentley continued to pour it on in the final quarter, getting a man-up goal from Nick Astarita and a goal from Caditz, among others. Astarita was one of four Falcons, along with Brigham, Knight and Tim Matheson, to score multiple goals.
