Limestone rolls to 22-8 win vs. Wingate; Saints strike with 16 consecutive goals
WINGATE, N.C. -- Coming off a distasteful loss to Le Moyne this past Saturday, No. 3 Limestone (8-1) took out its frustration on neighboring Wingate (2-9) as the saints scored 16 consecutive goals at one point en route to a 22-8 victory Tuesday.
Riley Loewen erupted for four goals and three assists to pace the Saints while Corey Rich had four scores and a pair of assists. Joining them on the offensive attack was Todd Nakasuji, who also had four goals.
Tewaaraton Award nominee Tor Reinholdt notched two goals and had three assists to help fuel the offense and Zach Cummings finished with two goals and two assists.
Anthony Rodrigues won 14 of 18 faceoffs and picked up a game-high 11 ground balls and fellow faceoff specialist Jake Ternosky went eight of 12 at the center X and had nine ground balls. Goalkeeper Patrick Sheridan saw the lion's share of minutes in net, making 10 saves to collect the win.
Following three consecutive goals by the Bulldogs to start the game, including two by Chase Clifton, Limestone went on its 16-goal stretch. Loewen drilled home three goals while assisting on three others while Nakasuji and Rich each scored three goals, as well.
Wingate's Garrett Kendall broke the string of goals at 9:19 of the third to make it 16-4.
Clifton and Taylor Womble led the Bulldogs with three goals apiece and Garrett Kendall added a pair of scores with four ground balls. Derek Watts and Ryan Vogrig each had two assists while Patrick Cooney played all 60 minutes between the pipes, making nine saves.
