No. 10 Pfeiffer scores seven goals in third quarter, beats Queens (N.C.) 14-8
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Down by one at the half, No. 10 Pfeiffer responded with seven third-quarter goals to score a 14-8 victory against Queens (N.C.) in Conference Carolinas action Wednesday night. The Falcons won their fourth in a row to improve to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. The Royals had their two-game win streak come to an end, dropping to 4-4 (2-1).
Steven Tilmon and James Shepherd each picked up first-quarter goals while the Royals sandwiched a pair in-between for a 2-2 game after 15 minutes of play. Queens took the halftime lead with a man-up goal by Tyler Van Horn and even-strength goal by Garrett Chan with 2:51 remaining to provide the one-goal difference. Tilmon scored again for the only Falcons goal of the period.
Tilmon, along with Cole Sheen, started the third quarter barrage by striking within the first five minutes while Connor Morgan answered for Queens at the 7:55 mark to tie the contest at 5. At that point, Pfeiffer took over with five consecutive goals during a 4:36 span.
Pfeiffer added fourth-quarter insurance with three goals, from Kory Lutes, Elliot Gilbert and Robert Hope, to gain the largest lead of the game at 13-6. Hope scored the Falcons' final goal with 4:50 remaining to cap off a three-goal night.
Tilmon and Shepherd also had three goals apiece while Hope added two assists. Khalid Stukes won 14 of 23 faceoffs and scooped up 10 ground balls for the Falcons. Hayden Kirk made 13 saves.
