BETHANY, W. Va. — Top-ranked Mercyhurst defeated Ohio Valley 20-4 in an Eastern College Athletic Conference match at Bethany College on Friday. Jake McAndrew scored four goals for the Lakers in the win.
The Lakers went up 7-0 in the first quarter, as McAndrew scored three times in the first nine minutes of action. The Scots got on the board late in the first period.
Brian Scheetz scored 44 seconds into the second frame and then McAndrew found the back of the net in a man-up situation with 11:55 to play. Cory Becker scored another man-up goal a few minutes later, making it 10-1 Mercyhurst. Matt Scharr’s goal with 2:36 left in the half made it 12-3 at the break.
Brandon Thomson scored to open the third quarter and then Justin Brophy scored with 8:48 to go for a 14-3 advantage. In the fourth, Chris Dale got going, scoring twice early in the period.
McAndrew finished with four goals and an assist. Scheetz had a hat trick and a helper. Thomson totaled three goals, while Becky had a goal and two assists. Michael Grace made two saves while playing the first quarter in goal. Tyler Nash played the rest of the way, recording two stops of his own.
The Lakers outshot OVU 41-16, and won 19 of 28 faceoffs.
