No. 6 Lynchburg dominates conference rival Bridgeport 23-1 in first meeting
BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- No. 6 Lynchburg defeated Bridgewater on Sunday 23-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action. It was the first meeting between the new Eagles program and the defending ODAC champions.
LC started quickly as the team scored eight goals in the first quarter while outshooting BC 18-2 in the period. Austin Stewart registered a hat trick in the period and Campbell Armstrong added two, as well. Pat Ohrem, Derek Sweet and Jacob Fuller were the other three scorers for the Hornets in the first period.
Stewart picked up right where he left off in the second, sending his first two shots into the back of the cage. Vin Curran then put in his first tally of the day to give Lynchburg an 11-0 lead with nine minutes left in the half. Rob Arnold added to the Lynchburg lead with less than three minutes left, as LC entered the half with a 12-0 advantage.
The Hornets outscored the Eagles 11-1 in the second half. Josh Davey tallied his first career hat trick in the game, Max Kelly and David Alyanakian each scored two points while Charlie Oldendorp, Jay Goldsmith, Dane Angell and Chris Cornelius each finished with a goal. Chance Smith and Ohrem each assisted on two goals in the game, with Lynchburg having 11 for the game.
Rob Simmons had the lone goal for BC (3-4 overall, 0-2 ODAC) and Andrew Buss made nine saves in 36 minutes of work. Lynchburg won 75 percent of the face-offs, with Curran winning eight of his nine attempts and Bobby Distler winning six of eight.
