McFadden wins Honda Award

NEW YORK (AP) -Caitlyn McFadden of NCAA champion Maryland has won the Honda Sports Award as the nation’s top college women’s lacrosse player.

McFadden becomes automatically eligible to win Collegiate Female Athlete of the Year.

The senior midfielder from Phoenix, Md., was voted the outstanding player of the NCAA tournament. She is tied for third in assists on the career list at Maryland.

The other lacrosse finalists were Northwestern’s Katrina Dowd, Virginia’s Brittany Kalkstein and North Carolina’s Jenn Russell
