The No. 1-ranked Salisbury University women’s lacrosse team picked up a 19-12 Capital Athletic Conference victory against No. 20 Stevenson University on Sunday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.
The Sea Gulls (9-0, 3-0 CAC) opened up the contest with a goal by junior midfielder Alyssa Fowler off an assist from senior attacker Trish DiGirolomo. Salisbury extended the lead to 5-0, before Stevenson reeled off three straight goals to close the lead to 5-3. The maroon and gold responded with seven consecutive goals, including three from senior midfielder Aileen McCausland. The Mustangs (5-3, 2-1 CAC) ended the half with a goal from Emily Gartrell off an assist from Lisa Baker to bring the score to 12-4 at the break.
Following a Stevenson goal to open up the second stanza, Salisbury struck back with three goals to push the lead to 15-5 in favor of the hosts. Over the final 19 minutes of play, the Mustangs outscored the Sea Gulls 7-4 to bring the score to its final at 19-12.
Sophomore midfielder Roxanne Raab posted a career-high six points to pace the Sea Gulls; the Fallston, Md., native scored three goals and handed out a personal-best three assists. McCausland, junior midfielder Allie Wheatley and sophomore midfielder Lauren Feusahrens each recorded three goals in the contest. DiGirolomo scored one goal and dished out four assists in the victory.
The Mustangs received a team-high five points from Leah Warner, as she scored four goals and tallied one assist. Lisa Baker followed closely behind with three goals and one helper.
The Sea Gulls are set to hit the road this Friday for a pivotal non-conference contest at No. 4 Franklin & Marshall College. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
