WEST HAVEN, Conn. — No. 11 New Haven defeated Saint Michael’s 16-2 Saturday afternoon at Kayo Field. Prior to the game, the Chargers two seniors, Carolina Marrero and Lisa Barnard were recognized for their dedication and excellence as they competed in their final regular season home contest. With the win, the Chargers improved to 9-6 overall and 7-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Purple Knights fell to 2-12 overall and 1-9 in conference play.

The Chargers jumped out on top early as Alexis Gabbe scored the first goal of the game just 34 seconds in. From that point, New Haven’s offense cruised as they scored eight more goals in the half to take a commanding 9-0 lead heading into the break.

The second half was a similar story. Saint Michael’s got on the board first but less than a minute later the Chargers retaliated on a goal from Sarah Magnone and never looked back. They would add seven more goals in the second half to come away with a 16-2 victory.

Gabbe led the squad with a game-high four goals. Sarah Magnone and Natalie Lieberman each tallied three a piece and Kristina Curry added two more.

Maureen Spellman was terrific in goal, allowing just two goals and saved six shots.
