May 14, 2005

Cassie Abel and Kate Fitzgerald scored four goals apiece Saturday, leading Colorado College to a 17-12 victory over Union College in their NCAA Division III Womens Lacrosse Regional playoff game at Stewart Field. The sixth-ranked Tigers, who improved to 11-1 for the season, will meet SUNY Cortland in Sundays 1 p.m. (MDT) regional final to determine which team advances to next weeks national championship round of four. Cortland defeated Cabrini College, 14-6, in Saturdays earlier matchup at CC. Colorado College spotted the Dutchwomen early leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but scored four consecutive goals to take control at 5-2 with 9:23 left in the first half. After Union cut the deficit to 5-4, the Tigers struck for four of the next five tallies to build a 9-5 edge at halftime. They increased the margin to 10-5 before a lightning delay halted play for 58 minutes early in the second half. Junior goalie Alana Dalton made 10 saves to backtop the triumph. Both teams finished with 31 shots.
