Salisbury, MD - The No.1-ranked Salisbury women's lacrosse team (16-0) defeated No.13-ranked Washington and Lee University, 15-4, on Sunday at the SU Athletics Complex in the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament Salisbury Region Final. With the victory, the Sea Gulls advance to the NCAA Final Four at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ on May 21.

Salisbury will play at 1:30 p.m. Saturday against the winner of Sunday's Colorado-Cortland State Regional Final.

Salisbury jumped to a quick 5-0 lead in the first minutes of the contest, while Washington and Lee answered with two back-to-back goals at 15:35 and 12:28, respectively. But the Generals couldn't hang on as Salisbury went on a six-goal run in the last 11 minutes of the half to make it 11-2 heading into intermission.

Washington and Lee's Natalya Hoobchaak opened up the scoring in the second half off a free position shot at 22:23, while the Generals' Louisa Feve quickly shot in another. But, for the remainder of the contest the Salisbury defense, ranked sixth in the nation, proved to be a far greater force than expected and held the Generals to just four goals.

The Sea Gulls were led by senior Linda Ackermann (Sykesville, MD/Liberty), who paced Salisbury's offensive attack with three goals. Juniors Kate Scott (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) and Amanda Tack (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) aided Salisbury with two goals each, while reserve Katie Simmons (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) went a perfect 2-for-2. Salisbury maintained the upper hand throughout the contest, leading Washington and Lee in shots (36-19), ground balls (36-30) and caused turnovers (10-9). Junior Ali Goetz (Fallston, MD/Fallston) (16-0) recorded the win in goal, while also recording 10 saves.

The Generals received a solid effort from junior Amanda Strickler who finished the day with a pair of goals on three shots. Despite the loss, freshman goalie Sarah Tilbor (15-4) recorded 12 saves in goal.
