NEW LONDON, Conn. — No. 11 Tufts scored four goals in the opening 7:38 of the second half to pull away for a 12-7 victory at Connecticut College on Tuesday.
Lara Kozin scored two goals and assisted on three others to lead the Jumbos. Kelly Hyland chipped in with three goals and one assist for the visitors. Casey Egan and Gabby Horner both scored twice for Tufts. Tess Shapanka stopped six shots en route to the win.
Connecticut College’s Bri Miller netted four scores to lead the hosts. Lowell Abbott scored twice for the Camels. Katelyn Driscoll collected six draws, added four forced turnovers, three ground balls and a goal in the Camel loss. Kelsey Burke made five saves in the loss.
Miller netted her second goal of the opening half with 5:00 remaining to even the score at three. But the Jumbos took a 4-3 lead into the break after Meg Boland scored with 3:56 remaining in the first half.
Tufts extended its lead with two quick scoring strikes coming 29 seconds apart. Kozin assisted Kerry Eaton for the first goal and then connected with Egan with a feed from behind the cage.
The Jumbos closed out their run when Hyland scored on a pass from Cohen to make it a 8-3 game with 22:28 remaining. Miller added two more goals in the second half.
