SALISBURY, Md. – Trailing Redlands 5-3 with 10:19 remaining in the first half on Saturday, Catholic unleashed a 9-0 run that propelled the Cardinals to a 17-10 win against Redlands in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The win sends the Cardinals to their third regional final in the last five years.

Mary Swarthout and Theresa Ciletti scored five goals to lead the Cardinals, while Lindsay Brophy, Meghan Brady, and Katie Miller added two apiece.

After Meghan Prickett scored twice to put Redlands in front 5-3 with 10:19 remaining in the first, CUA  pulled ahead and scored the final eight goals of the half to surge in front 11-5 at the break.

Ciletti scored three times, Swarthout scored twice and Brophy, Brady and Miller added one each during the 8-0 CUA run.

Swarthout continued the scoring for the Cards 41 seconds into the second half to make it a seven-goal lead, before KK McCaslin finally put a goal on the board for the Bulldogs.

Miller scored with 21:41 to play to up the lead back to seven, but Jacky Craycraft and Finke netted two consecutive for Redlands to cut the lead to five.

CUA responded with goals from Swarthout, Brady and Ciletti to take its largest lead of the day with 12:35 on the clock.

Brophy finished the scoring with a goal with only 2:31 left, sealing CUA’s 16th win of the season.

The teams went back-and-forth in the early going with Ciletti netting the game’s first goal before Prickett answered for the Bulldogs.

CUA’s Mary Robinson and Finke then traded goals, and Swarthout and Blair Callaghan followed with two more goals to tie things at three with 16:19 to play before halftime.

Brophy and Mallory Vogel handed out two assists apiece for CUA, with Swarthout leading the way with seven draw controls.  Swarthout and Caroline Scalamandre forced three turnovers each and Tricia Pehnke improved to 11-0 on the season with a nine-save effort in goal.
