McCarrick registers five goals to power No. 6 Limestone past No. 14 Mercyhurst
GAFFNEY, S.C. – Sophomore midfielder Sam McCarrick recorded a game-high five goals as No. 6 Limestone (4-0, 2-0 CC) defeated No. 14 Mercyhurst (1-1, 0-0 PSAC) 12-6 on Thursday.
McCarrick added a pair of draw controls, while junior midfielder Katie Farrell notched a hat trick with three goals and four groundballs. Senior midfielder Chelsea Treat finished with a pair of goals and an assist, while senior attack Sylvia Queener added two assists, three groundballs and three draw controls.
Senior midfielder Jessie Aguglia and senior attack Ali Schumacher each had a goal and junior attack Sarah Oor finished with an assist -- marking her 100th career assist. Senior goalkeeper Rashelle McLellan played all 60 minutes in net, making four saves and allowing just six goals to improve to 4-0 on the season.
McCarrick got the Saints on the board just 2:47 in off an assist from Queener before the Lakers' Kayla Minner knotted the game at one just 35 seconds later. The teams traded scores during the next four goals to leave the game tied at three with 7:50 left in the first half. Limestone notched a pair of man-up scores during that stretch before Katie Farrell delivered her second of the game at the 6:43 mark to give the Saints a 4-3 lead at the break.
In the second half, Limestone blew open the game by scoring five of the next six goals during a span of 17:48 to push the lead to 9-4 with 12:12 left in the game. The Lakers cut the deficit to 9-6 in less than a minute as they came away with a pair of quick goals by Hannah Corton and Rebecca Himes. However, the Saints scored the next three goals, two unassisted, to wrap up the six-goal victory.
Corton and Minner each finished with a pair of goals, while Minner added an assist, three groundballs and two draw controls. Himes and Erin Byrnes each had a solo score for the Lakers. Rebecca Muscella played all 60 minutes between the pipes and allowed all 12 scores while making six saves to fall to 1-1.
