HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Freshman Devin Markison scored a season-high five goals and junior Brittney Coppa scored three times as North Carolina powered past High Point 15-6 on Tuesday.

With the win, the third-ranked Tar Heels won their sixth game in a row and improved to 6-1 this season. High Point fell to 2-5.

Carolina dominated from the beginning, scoring three times in the first five minutes and building a 9-0 lead in the first 25:13 of the game. Coppa scored three of UNC's first six goals and freshman Sammy Jo Tracy had two.

After High Point scored its first goal of the contest with 2:57 left in the first half, Markison netted her second goal of the game with 30 seconds to go to give the Tar Heels a 10-1 lead at intermission.

Markison scored three goals in a span of just four minutes late in the contest to put the game away after High Point had scored three consecutive times to cut the UNC lead to 11-5.

Tracy finished with two goals, as did junior Taylor George. Senior Emily Garrity had a goal and an assist, and junior Abbey Friend dished out two assists. Kara Cannizzaro and Aly Messinger each scored one goal, while Kate Martino, Sam McGee and Paige Hanson had one assist apiece.

Christie Dougherty scored twice for High Point, and Mackenzie Carroll had a goal and an assist.

Senior Lauren Maksym started in goal for Carolina and played the first half, recording two saves while allowing four goals. Freshman Megan Ward played the second half in the cage and made three saves with two goals allowed.
