ORLANDO, Fla. — Mary Mitchell and Brittney Jorgenson combined for nine points to lead No. 8 Franklin & Marshall to a 12-7 victory against Ithaca. The Diplomats improved to 3-1 while the Bomber fell to 2-2.
The victory was the 100th career win for head coach Mike Faith.
F&M jumped out to an early 3-0 lead nine minutes into the contest with scores by Caroline Krohn, Ali Kelly and Maggie Mae Shields. Krohn found Jorgenson at 17:31 to put F&M up 4-0 and the Bombers answered with a score at 5:55.
Lauren Selawski assisted Shields at 3:25 before Ithaca found the net at 1:47 for a 5-2 score. The Diplomats answered 20 seconds later when Krohn and Jorgenson connected again to give F&M a 6-2 edge at the break.
The teams traded free-position goals to start the second with Mitchell and Everdell scoring for the Diplomats to put F&M up 8-3 at 20:50. The Bombers scored at 19:22 and both team remained off the board for more than 10 minutes before Jorgenson buried a feed from Mitchell at 9:07.
Ithaca made it 9-5 at 8:04 and F&M countered with a pair of unanswered goals by Mitchell to go up 11-5. Anastasia Mergner assisted on the first goal and Jorgenson found Mitchell on the second. Michelle Avery found the net for Ithaca to bring the Bombers within five 11-6 and Krohn fed Selawski at 3:42 to make it 12-6.
Krohn came away with four draws and Jen Noon finished with five groundballs.
Kelsey Hoffman got the win between the pipes with 15 saves and improved to 3-1 while Jess Worthman turned away nine shots in the loss.
