WINTER PARK, Fla. – Sophomore Jackie Brown scored four goals as No. 9 Bentley bounced back from a tough season-opening loss to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne 18-7 in a non-conference game Friday.

Senior Taylor Bastien had a game-high five points for Bentley on a goal and four assists, while junior Carolyn Kynoch had two goals and two assists and freshman Tori Cerny had a goal and three assists. Freshman Erin O’Connor also had a hat trick.

The Falcons only briefly trailed in the first half before a 3-0 run put them up for good 6-4. They trailed 4-3 at the 17:04 mark after a goal by Lenoir’s Hayley Beattie, but tied it up four minutes later on a goal by freshman Kelsey Howard. Just 29 seconds later, junior Chelsea Larivee gave Bentley a 5-4 lead.

Another goal wasn’t scored for almost seven minutes until Brown found the net with her third of the half to give Bentley a 6-4 advantage. However, Beattie scored for Lenoir with just 35 seconds left in the half to pull within one before intermission.

Bentley started the second half with a 6-0 run in six minutes to take a 12-5 lead. Six different players scored during the run.

Lenoir’s last goal of the game came with 16:12 left off the stick of Sarah Gioconda that made the score 14-7. Bentley finished strong with the game’s final four goals to put the contest away.

The Falcons improved to 1-1 on the season with the victory, while the Bears dropped to 3-3.
