EASTON, Mass. -- Top-ranked LIU Post withstood a late charge from No. 11 Stonehill on Saturday. Behind a career-high 13 points from junior attacker Jackie Sileo, the Pioneers posted a 15-12 victory against the Skyhawks.
The Pioneers improve to a perfect 10-0 on the season while Stonehill slides to 9-5 overall.
The visitors scored three of the game's first four goals as Morgan Chiarenza, Sileo and Abbie Ross combined to give the Pioneers a 3-1 lead. Stonehill scored back-to-back on Kelsey Reilly and Kayla Green markers to tie the game at three, but two Pioneer goals countered the attack as Sileo assisted on Brie-Claire Drost's and Ashley Olen's markers at 16:33 and 16:21 to put the pioneers ahead 5-3.
The teams traded a pair of goals and with 10:17 left in the half, the Pioneers led 7-5. But scores from Olen at 3:21 and Sileo at 1:18 closed out the half in favor of the Pioneers, and they took a 10-6 lead into the break.
The Pioneers repeated the same pattern, scoring three of the first four goals in the second half to go up 13-7 on the Skyhawks with 17:12 left in the game. Stonehill showed its muster with four consecutive goals -- three by Heather Sullivan -- to make it a close 13-11 game, but the Pioneers powered ahead with Olen's fourth of the game at 6:43, and after another Reilly score, Ross shut the door for good with her second score of the afternoon with 44 seconds left to play.
The victory was sealed by a season-high 11 saves from senior goalkeeper Dominique Mosca, while counterpart Ashley Armstrong stopped 12 shots in the loss.
Game totals for the Pioneers saw Sileo's new career-high come on a game-high five goals and eight assists. Olen added four goals, Ross and Drost scored two apiece and Chiarenza notched one goal and three assists.
