North Carolina had come close to hoisting a title before, but the Tar Heels would have to get past undefeated ACC-rival Maryland to do so in 2013. The Tar Heels did so in one of the most exciting national championship games in any sport this year, winning 13-12 in triple overtime to take the Division I crown. Meanwhile at the Division II and II championships in Owings Mills, Md., LIU Post won its second consecutive DII national title while Salisbury knocked off Trinity (Conn.) to win the DIII championship.
