FORT WORTH-In the final contest of the regular season, the TCU Rifle team topped the Air Force Academy today at the TCU rifle range. The result will help determine the positioning of final eight teams that will make up the NCAA National Championship field. The final score of today’s match favored TCU, 4610-4573.
Erin Lorenzen once again led the way for the Frogs in air rifle. The junior from Fort Wayne, Ind., fired a 585, which was a good enough score to take the top spot in air rifle. Following Lorenzen’s lead was Simone Riford with a score of 581. Rounding out the four counter scores with a pair of 578′s was Lauren Sullivan and Mattie Brogdon.
In smallbore, Simone Riford was one point off of the lead with a score of 579. Erin Lorenzen and Mattie Brogdon chipped in with scores of 574 and 572, respectively. Emily Paper added to the team’s smallbore score with a 563. The lone senior on the team Tanya Gorin fired a 572 against the Falcons.
In the coming weeks, the NCAA will release the field of eight teams that will come to Fort Worth in March for the NCAA championships. In the mean time, the Horned Frogs will travel to Hawaii to shoot against Air Force and Nevada on Mar. 27.
