ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy rifle team member Chris Burleson has been named the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) November smallbore shooter of the month, the organization announced recently.

The junior from St. Augustine, Fla., fired a 592 in smallbore on Nov. 22, 2009, vs. John Jay, setting a new school and NCAA record. In addition, his 589 air rifle produced one of the highest aggregate scores in NCAA history of 1181. Earlier in the month, he led Navy with 577 smallbore and 591 air rifle at the President's Trophy match. Burleson only began shooting smallbore since arriving at Navy in September 2007.

Burleson leads the 3-0 Midshipmen in both disciplines, averaging 587.0 in air rifle and 579.6 in smallbore. In air rifle, four of his five scores this year have been at least 587, while in smallbore, all five scores have been at least 576.

Burleson and his teammates will be in action next on Jan. 16, when they host the Coast Guard, beginning at 9:00 am at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range.
