FORT WORTH, Texas — TCU, winners of 24 consecutive regular-season matches, fired a school-record 4,701 to take home first place at a triangular hosted by Murray State on Sunday. Sarah Scherer was once again the top shooter for the Horned Frogs.
“The team has had their sights set on surpassing the 4700 mark since last season,” head coach Karen Monez said. “I’m proud of them for staying focused on the goal and achieving this milestone.”
The Horned Frogs topped the host school by nearly 100 points as the Racers shot a 4,606, while Morehead State finished third with a score of 4,558. TCU became just the third school to fire a 4,700, joining West Virginia and Kentucky in the elite category.
Scherer continued her torrid start to the season, taking home top spot in air rifle (598) and in smallbore (588).
TCU fired a solid team score of 2,367 in air rifle and boasted the top four shooters in the event. Caitlin Morrissey finished second with a score of 593, while Sarah Beard and Catherine Green each fired scores of 588. Mattie Brogdon turned in a eighth-place finish with a mark of 583, while Jaime Dowd rounded out the top 10 with a score of 580.
The Horned Frogs dominated smallbore, shooting an aggregate score of 2,334 as a team. Again, the Frogs posted the top four scores in the event. Beard took home second-place honors after shooting a 587. Brogdon finished third with a score of 580, while Morrissey rounded out the top four with a 579. Green was sixth after shooting a 575.
