Liuzza ties season-highs in smallbore, air rifle to lead Nanooks

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Fifth-ranked Alaska-Fairbanks continued to roll on its first road trip of 2012, capturing its second consecutive victory by defeating No. 15 Navy 4,650-4,588 on Thursday evening at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range.

The Nanooks outshot Navy 2,347-2,318 in air rifle and 2,303-2,270 in smallbore. The win, which snapped the Mids string of four dual-match victories, improved Alaska-Fairbanks to 5-3 on the road and 6-4 overall on the season.

Leading the way in air rifle for the second match in a row was Mats Eriksson, who set a new career-high with by firing a 592. Michael Liuzza tied his season-high with a 588 as the second-best shooter on the day. Ryan Anderson was third for the Nanooks with a 584, while Julia Redzia and Anna Hjelmevoll notched socres of 583 and 581, respectively.

In smallbore, Liuzza also tied his season-best score with a match-high 579. Eriksson was second for the Nanooks with his season-high 577 and Anderson’s 576, Redzia’s 571 and Hjelmevoll’s 569 rounded out the starters scores.
