JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In its first competition of the new year, No. 5 Jacksonville State turned in a solid effort on Saturday at the Gamecock Rifle Range as the Gamecocks topped Ohio Valley Conference foes No. 8 Murray State and No. 18 Columbus State.
The Gamecocks posted an aggregate score of 4,638, which was 29 points better than Murray State’s final total of 4,609. Columbus State finished with a 4,574. Jacksonville State carded a 2,304 in smallbore and recorded a 2,334 in air rifle.
Jacksonville State claimed the top four individual spots in smallbore, led by Sam Muegge. Muegge bagged a 586, followed by Samantha Bullard’s 579. Dan McCall registered a 576, while Brent Books rounded out the top-four spots with a 575.
In air rifle, MSU’s Kelsea Emme won the individual crown with a top mark of 591. JSU turned in the next three best scores. Monica Fyfe was one point shy of matching Emme with a score of 590. Bullard closed out the day with a third-place finish in air rifle with a 585. Muegge posted a 584 to aid in JSU’s score.
