No. 2 TCU up to 21 consecutive wins with sweep of No. 4 Alaska-Fairbanks
FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- No. 2 TCU returned to form on Monday as they completed a sweep of No. 4 Alaska-Fairbanks with a 4,692-4,657 victory. The win gives TCU 21 consecutive victories dating back to the start of the 2011-12 season.
The Horned Frogs had a solid opening smallbore relay as Sarah Beard and Sarah Scherer fired the top two marks in the discipline. Beard shot a season-high 591 in smallbore to take the top spot in the match. Scherer finished second after shooting a 585. Megan Lee finished sixth in smallbore after shooting a 575. Caitlin Morrissey's 572 was ninth-best in the match.
Freshman Allie Taschuk had a career day in smallbore as she shot a 570. It's just the fifth time this season she has shot in a smallbore relay. Kelly Bogart also set a personal best as she shot a 569 in smallbore. Also shooting smallbore were Jamie Dowd (565), Catherine Green (567) and Hannah Black (568).
The strong opening relay helped the Frogs to a win in the event as they topped the Nanooks 2,323-2,311.
Another solid performance in air rifle saw the Frogs shoot a team aggregate of 2,369. It's the third-highest mark of the season in the discipline.
Scherer (597), Beard (596) and Green (592) took home the top three spots in air rifle. For Scherer it is the fourth time this season she has shot at least a 597. Beard was just one point off of her career-high and for Green it marked the second match in a row she shot a season-best, topping her mark from Saturday by one point.
Morrissey finished tenth after shooting a 584. Black fired a 583 for a 12th place finish and Dowd was 14th after shooting a 581. Lee fired a 580, while Taschuk shot a 574. Bogart rounded out the shooters for TCU as she shot a 573.
