Virginia tops Ohio State, Michigan

Cavaliers sweep all of their races on afternoon

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Second-ranked Virginia won all of its races against No. 7 Ohio State and No. 12 Michigan on Sunday on the Scioto River in Columbus, Ohio.

Virginia’s Varsity Eight (coxswain Sidney Thorsten, Kristine O’Brien, Christine Roper, Keziah Beall, Martha Kuzzy, Fiona Schlesinger, Marelle Myers, Claudia Blandford and Taylor Levine) defeated Ohio State, 6:40.35 to 6:44.46, and Michigan, 6:48.20 to 6:56.63.

UVa’s Second Varsity Eight (coxswain Molly Frear, MacKenzie Leahy, Carli Goldberg, Carolyn Glandorf, Jenny Shultis, Morgan Joseph, Brandy Herald, Cara Linnenkohl and Hunter Terry) also swept the ranked opposition, defeating Ohio State, 6:45.70 to 6:51.60, and Michigan, 7:05.00 to 7:12.86.

In the Varsity Four (Sarah Jordan, Ruth Retzinger, Lauren Shook, Chelsea Simpson and Kaity McCullough), UVa’s times of 7:38.0 and 8:11.50 defeated Ohio State (7:47.59) and Michigan (8:23.06).

Virginia was also victorious in the Second Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight against both the Buckeyes and Wolverines.
