Noting Virginia: The Cavaliers placed sixth in the 2011 NCAA Championships, but return enough fight to own the top spot in the first CRCA/US Rowing Coaches’ Poll of the season. Twenty seniors headline Virginia’s roster who will need to help lead the way for 30 underclassmen, 22 of those being freshmen. The squad also returns junior All-American Kristine O’Brien. The Cavs opened up the 2012 season on March 17-18 with 18 victories at the Oak Ridge Invitational.
Noting Western Washington: The Vikings, 2011 national champions, are ranked No. 1 in the first CRCA/US Rowing Coaches’ Poll and are ready to vie for their eighth consecutive national crown. Western Washington returns 13 seniors this season and has added seven freshmen to the roster that will have to make up for the loss of All-Americans Samantha Oberholzer and Siri Carlson to graduation. The Vikings get the 2012 season rolling on March 24 as they head to the Steward’s Cup Regatta in Seattle, Wash.
Noting Williams: The Ephs hope to continue to build on the strong foundation they have laid the past few years by working their way to a seventh national championship in a row. Ranked No. 1 in the first CRCA/US Rowing Coaches’ Poll, Williams’ 12 seniors have three years of championship experience under their belts which will prove beneficial to the Ephs, and guiding the 16 other underclassmen along. The squad opens up the season on March 31 at St. Joseph’s University. |
