PRINCETON, N.J. — No. 9 Michigan officially opened its spring season with its first scoring event on Saturday against No. 3 Princeton and No. 4 Brown at Lake Carnegie. The Wolverines varsity eight squads swept their two events, while the second varsity four also earned a win in its piece. The Wolverines’ first varsity four and novice team each finished third in their respective races.

“It’s a good start to the season” head coach Mark Rothstein said. “It was great to race such good competition on a great course. Princeton was a great host and we’re pleased with the way we raced.

U-M’s first varsity eight (6:34.1) came in considerably faster than Princeton (6:39.5) and Brown (6:45.5). The Michigan second varsity eight (6:43.9) nipped the Tigers (6:46.4) and came in nearly eight seconds ahead of the Bears (6:51.0).

Jane Sugiyama returned to the water after struggling with injuries the past two years.
