WPI earns three second-place finishes and one third-place to open season
WORCESTER, Mass. -- WPI registered three second-place finishes and added a third-place performance Saturday morning on Lake Quisigamond in its first spring race of 2013.
In a race that featured three boats in the top 15, the eighth-ranked Varsity 8 comprised of Amy Loomis, Caitlin Heindl, Maggie Freed, Emily Hofmeister, Macauley Kenney, SaraBeth Leach, Corre Steele, Brooke Cotta and coxswain Emily Johnson placed second (6:51.3), just under four seconds behind sixth-ranked Wesleyan (Conn.) and eight seconds ahead of No. 13 Smith.
The second varsity of Liz Audet, Sandra Garcia-Fine, Brianna Gillespie, Elisabeth Boulanger, Erin Heckley, Ellen Pierce, Arianna Niro, Kelsey Stergiou and coxswain Sam O'Connor clocked a 7:25.61 to finish in second place behind Wesleyan.
The third Varsity 8 made up of Kellie Dickerson, Rachael Matty, Sarah Smith, Kristin Olson, Sarah Kapelner, Rebecca Barolli, Lea Dighello, Mikayla Pasciuto and coxswain Jess Prashaw crossed the line in a time of 7:37.49, trailing behind Middlebury for a second-place finish.
The Novice 8 of Smith, Olson, Alexa Hiznay, Barolli, Felicia Gabriel, Pasciuto, Dighello, Emily Brecher and coxswain Dominique Throop was third in its race, hitting the finish line in time of 8:04.2.
