Fourth-ranked Bates wins all six races against No. 5 Wellesley, No. 12 Tufts
MALDEN, Mass. — No. 4 Bates went a perfect 6-0 against No. 12 Tufts and No. 5 Wellesley on Saturday in Tufts’ dual races held on the Malden River, while the Bates men was 4-3 overall in competition against Wesleyan and the University of New Hampshire.
The Bates women fielded their Varsity 8 (WV8), along with their W2V8 and W3V8. All three boats met Tufts in their morning heats and went unscathed. Both the WV8 and W2V8 were in competitive races, with Bates’ WV8 prevailing 7:04.269 to 7:08.257, and the W2V8 winning 7:08.483 to 7:12.775. All three boats took on Wellesley in their finals and won there too, with the WV8 lowering its time to 6:57.964 to edge the Blue by more than five seconds.
The Bates men’s Varsity 8 held off UNH in an impressive victory, 6:16.103 to 6:19.231. The Bobcats also defeated the Wildcat novice eight in the M2V8 Heat 2 in an uncompetitive race. Both boats went on to row against Wesleyan, and the Cardinals prevailed in both cases. The Bates men also defeated Wesleyan in a pair of fours races, both by healthy margins.
