ERZURUM, Turkey – University of Denver skiers senior Seppi Stiegler, freshman Sterling Grant and sophomore Jennie VanWagner all captured gold medals at the Winter World University Games in Erzurum, Turkey, from Jan. 29 to Feb. 6. DU skiers won three of the United States’ five gold medals, and one of their two silvers.
Stiegler won the men’s slalom, while earning silver in the men’s alpine overall. Stiegler also finished sixth in men’s giant slalom, 11th in men’s super combined and 32nd in men’s Super G.
Grant placed first in women’s slalom, her third win in as many slalom races since joining the Pioneers this season, and took 28th in women’s giant slalom.
VanWagner took the gold in women’s giant slalom. She also came in 11th in women’s super combined and 15th in women’s Super G.
Junior Lindsay Cone was fifth in women’s slalom, 11th in women’s Super G and 21st in women’s giant slalom.
Sophomore Grant Jampolsky came in fourth in men’s super combined, sixth in men’s Super G and 63rd in men’s giant slalom.
Representing her native Norway, junior Ida Dillingoen was 24th in women’s giant slalom and 53rd in women’s Super G.
