Bates finishes opening day in fourth
Buetow, Sellegren pace Bobcats to successful showing
JACKSON, N.H. -- Bates had success at the first day of the UNH Winter Carnival on Friday, with the men’s team placing fourth out of 13 teams and the women’s team taking sixth out of 11 teams in the classic sprint races.
Altogether, Bates is tied for fourth place with host New Hampshire after the first day of the carnival. Alpine giant slalom races at Attitash Mountain Resort were called off on Friday, and are likely to be made up on Sunday.
Bates sophomore Jordan Buetow led the men’s team, taking 13th place out of 86 skiers with a time of 3:38.43. Right behind, was freshman Nick Michaud, in 14th at 3:39.44. Sophomore Alex Hamilton finished 30th in 3:46.88.
Junior Gretchen Sellegren paced the women’s squad with a 15th-place time of 4:21.50 among 80 competitors. Senior Beth Taylor finished 27th in 4:21.44, and first-year Hallie Grossman rounded out Bates’ scoring in 40th, at 4:35.03.
