WINGATE, N.C. − Nick Duncan  (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Allen D. Nease HS) picked an opportune time to score his first collegiate goal as he helped lift Flagler College to a 2-0 win over No. 7 (NSCAA/ NCAA Division II) Wingate University in a non-conference men’s soccer match Wednesday afternoon at the W Soccer Complex.

Flagler improves to 3-1 on the season while Wingate suffered its first defeat of the year and fell to 3-1. The Saints avenged their season-ending loss last year at Wingate, 4-0, in the opening round of the Southeast Regional.

Duncan collected a loose ball just inside the midfield stripe and boomed a shot which went over the head of the Wingate keeper and into the net in the 11th minute. The goal would hold as both teams went to the lockers at halftime.

Adam Jackson (Nottingham, England/Bilborough College) scored his first goal of the season when he headed in Conor Killeen’s (Dublin, Ireland/Colaiste Ide) corner kick in the 60th minute to provide some insurance.

The Bulldogs tried to rally in the final 30 minutes, but three of their shots were saved by Saints’ keeper Matt Gilman (Ocala, Fla./Jacksonville U.) and another three were off target.

Gilman had a great day between the pipes to record his third shutout of the season as he saved seven shots. Joey Calandra saved three shots for Wingate.

The Bulldogs out-shot the Saints 13-9, but Flagler held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. The Saints were whistled for 16 fouls and the Bulldogs were reprimanded nine times.
