UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Behind 12 combined points from the nation's top scoring tandem of junior forward Corey Hertzog (Reading, Pa.) and senior midfielder Matheus Braga (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Penn State blitzed Old Dominion, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at Jeffrey Field in a second contest of the 2010 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.
The NCAA postseason win is the Nittany Lions' first since 2005 and the margin of victory is their largest since a 3-0 blanking of Robert Morris in the first round of championship play in 1994.
Hertzog netted his second career hat trick and added an assist while Braga notched two assists, increasing his program-record total to 17 for the season. With 20 goals and 46 points, Hertzog takes over the nation's lead in both statistical categories. Braga's 17 assists put him in a first place tie for tops in the NCAA. Hertzog and Braga have combined to score a remarkable 73 points (Hertzog 46, Braga 27), believed to be the most by a pair of Nittany Lions in the 100-year history of the program.
