NORFOLK, Va. - Behind a penalty kick from junior Blake Camp and an overtime goal from freshman Paul Dudley, Duke advanced in the NCAA Tournament with a 2-1 win over Old Dominion. The Blue Devils will play Ohio State in the round of 16.

In a back-and-forth first half that saw several chances for both teams, Duke managed to outshoot Old Dominion by a 6-1 margin. Still, the Blue Devils were only able to put one shot on goal, a drive from outside the box by freshman Michael Videira, which Monarch goalkeeper John Connolly turned away.

The second half opened with the same back-and-forth style as the first. In the 57th minute, the tempo picked up significantly. ODU got the best scoring chance of the match to that point when Brian Cvilikas collected the ball about 15 yards out and fired to the lower left. The ball appeared destined for the back of the net, but senior goalkeeper Justin Trowbridge dove and just barely got his left hand on it to keep the game scoreless. Only two minutes later, it was Duke enjoying a scoring chance when freshman Zachary Pope made a run up the near side and his shot missed just wide.

In the 60th minute, Cvilikas had yet another chance when Kyle Hartley found him with a cross in the goal mouth. Cvilikas' one-timer missed just to the left of the goal and the score stayed 0-0. In the 62nd minute, freshman Spencer Wadsworth got free in the box, but Connolly came out and made a sliding save.

In the 73rd minute, Duke broke the tie with the help of some good fortune. With the Blue Devils on the attack, Old Dominion committed a foul in the box, resulting in a penalty kick for Duke. Junior Blake Camp stepped up and calmly buried the kick to give Duke a 1-0 lead with less than 17 minutes to play.

In the 80th minute, ODU's Kevin McMenamin had a shot stopped by Trowbridge. Only two minutes later, though, the Monarchs pulled even. Hartley took a drop pass from Cvilikas in the far corner of the box and fired a shot at eye-level that got past Trowbridge to knot the score at 1-1. The teams played scoreless soccer for 10 minutes and the game headed into overtime.

In the third minute of overtime, freshman Paul Dudley wound up from 25 yards out and fired a rocket into the lower right-hand corner to give Duke the 2-1 win.

The Blue Devils advance to the round of 16 to face Ohio State, which defeated Notre Dame, 2-1. The site of that game will be announced tomorrow morning.
