Nov. 9, 2005

Bristol, RI - Roger Williams senior forward Shohei Okubo (Tokyo, Japan) tallied the game winning goal just 12 seconds into the game to propel the #23 nationally ranked Hawks past Mount Ida College, 3-0, in the opening round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) on Wednesday afternoon played on Bayside Field.

The Hawks (17-2-3) notched their 17th shutout of the season and will advance to the second round of the NCAAs for a second straight season. The Hawks came out to play in the first half as Okubo received a perfect feed from freshman Brandon ODonovan (Coram, NY) scoring his seventh goal of the season. The Hawks would add another score when junior forward Jamie Pereira (Naugatuck, CT) delivered a free kick to the head of Brendan Cavanaugh (Newtown, CT) en route to a second score in the 24th minute. The Hawks added an insurance goal three minutes later as sophomore midfielder Kevin Canty (Glastonbury, CT) made an up field pass to sophomore midfielder Antoine Bell (Bordeaux, France) who notched his fourth goal of the season.

The Mustangs end their season with an 8-5-5 record and champions of North Atlantic Conference (NAC), while the Hawks move on to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will face The College of New Jersey on Saturday (Nov. 12).
