Messiah 3, College of New Jersey 0

Nov. 19, 2005

Grantham, Pa. -- Sophomore Patrick Lenehan (Highland, IN) continued the hot foot for the second night in the row as he netted two goals in Messiah's 3-0 win over The College of New Jersey. Lenehan has five goals in two games after only having two on the entire season entering this weekends NCAA Sectional Tournament. The win sends the undefeated Falcons (22-0) into the Final Four to be held in Greensboro, NC for the second straight year.

Messiah is looking to defend their 2004 National Title and win their fourth crown in six seasons.

After a scoreless first half in which Messiah held an eight to two advantage in shots, the Falcons got a break when an attempted clear in the Lions box was driven into David McClellan (Middleburg, PA) and bounced in the TCNJ (18-3-1) goal at 46:50. Five minutes later Dan Wagner recorded his team leading 11th assist of the season when he found Lenehan streaking into the box after beating his defender on the left flank for a 2-0 lead. TCNJ then had their best opportunity of the game in the 75th minute when a Lion attacker was played in alone on Falcon goalkeeper Dustin Shambach (Middleburg, PA) but a kick save kept the sheet clean for Messiah, their 13th of the season. Lenehan then iced it away at 81:09 when he headed home a great cross from McClellan into the top right corner from 14 yards out for the 3-0 win.

Messiah held an 18-6 advantage on shots and an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. Messiah's Dustin Shambach made four saves while TCNJ net minder Matt Kasperavicius (Jackson, NJ) was forced into eight saves. TCNJ completes their season with a record of 18-3-1.

Messiah's mens team will join the Falcon women's team for the second straight season in Greensboro, NC at the NCAA Final Four. Semi-final play will begin on Friday, November 25 with the finals to be played on Saturday, November 26.
