GREENSBORO, N.C.— A goal each from Nick Thompson, Danny Thompson and Josh Sanders, along with a pair of assists by Geoff Pezon, helped Messiah College advance to their sixth NCAA Division III National Championship since the 2000 season with a 3-0 victory over Loras College.

“I hung out at the top of the box and it came to me. I knew it would go in when I hit it,” said Nick Thompson.

The Falcons Jared Clugston stopped two shots on goal to maintain the shutout of the morning game of the National Semifinals at McPherson Stadium, improving their record to 21-2-2 overall. Nate DuBois countered with five saves for Loras College.

Nick Thompson netted the match’s opening goal at the 12-minute mark off a throw in assist by Geoff Pezon.

Messiah pushed its lead to 2-0 on a Danny Thompson foot volley on an assist by Josh Mull at 50:25. The game’s final goal came on a 10-yard strike by Josh Sanders from Pezon.

The Falcons gained a decisive edge in shots (16-4), while Loras held the advantage in corner kicks (3-1) and saves (5-2).

Leading the way for the Duhawks was Nick Berndt with two shots.

Post Game Quotes:

Loras Head Coach Dan Rothert
“If you want to be able to compete against Messiah, you have to learn from them first. I give Messiah credit for putting pressure on us and getting an early goal.”

Loras College's Sean Crosby
"Messiah is a great team with a lot of experience and hard-working players.

Messiah Head Coach Dave Brandt
“I think every game has a different dynamic. Loras is an excellent team. If Nick’s shot does not go in early, it could be a different game. We have had five very tough games to get to the championship.”

Messiah College's J.D. Binger:
“For me, this is my fourth Final Four, and they have only gotten more special each year. This year takes the cake for me.
