RICHARDSON , Texas – Midwestern State is the top choice in the Lone Star Conference as the league’s annual men’s soccer preseason poll was released on Thursday.

The Mustangs received seven of 10 first-place votes on the ballots cast by the league’s head coaches, sports information directors and various media representatives.  MSU totaled 37 points to edge West Texas A&M.

WTAMU collected the other three first-place nods and finished with 32 points, while Eastern New Mexico was third with 16 and Northeastern State fourth with 15.

MSU won the title last year with a 7-1 conference mark.  The Mustangs were 19-3 overall and advanced to the national quarterfinals.

MSU, WTAMU, ENMU and NSU will compete in the LSC this season after the Southwest Soccer Conference alliance ended due to Missouri Southern dropping its program.  The five teams had composed the Southwest Soccer Conference (SSC) since 2004.

The schedule of games begins in late August. Each of the four LSC teams will play the other twice during the regular season, with those contests determining the conference champion.
