COLUMBUS, Ohio - Matt Lampson, a redshirt freshman on the Ohio State men's soccer team, earned Big Ten defensive player of the week honors Monday after securing back-to-back shutouts in goal last week. Lampson and the Buckeyes are undefeated through eight games with a 5-0-3 record - the best start in school history - heading into their match against No. 1 Akron at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Lampson was stellar in goal Sunday against Michigan State, stopping all four shots on goal to secure his third-consecutive shutout and the 1-0 victory over the No. 21-ranked Spartans. The shutout marked Lampson's second on the week, the first coming by virtue of his three saves in the Buckeyes' 1-0 edge over IUPUI on Wednesday.

This is the first weekly laurel for the Hilliard, Ohio, native, who has not given up a goal in 322:19 of action.
