Roundup: Urbana hands No. 5 Mercyhurst first loss
MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Greg Giguere scored nearly six minutes into overtime to lift ninth-ranked Franklin Pierce to a 2-1 victory against fourth-ranked Southern New Hampshire on Saturday. The Ravens remain unbeaten on the season at 5-0 and 2-0 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 3-2 and 1-2 in the league.
The game-winning goal came after the Ravens were awarded a free kick at the top of the box following a Penmen foul. Victor Goncalves fired a ball into the SNHU wall of defenders that deflected back to him. He fired a shot towards the goal, but Giguere got a foot on it and redirected it past Southern New Hampshire keeper Joey Kapinos.
Southern New Hampshire tied the game with just over two minutes remaining in regulation on Chris Tsonis’ fifth goal of the season. Ruben Resendes played a long pass into Tsonis, who was standing at the top of the 18. He spun around a Raven defender and fired a low liner that found the inside of the far right post.
