RIVER FOREST, Ill. – No. 15 Dominican (Ill.) took down previously undefeated No. 4 Washington-St. Louis 3-1 at West Campus Field. With the win, the Stars improved to 7-1 overall.
Lio Tovar opened things up for the Stars by netting his third goal of the season in the 19th minute. The 1-0 lead stayed intact until the Bears found the back of the net in the 39th minute to tie things 1-1 before halftime.
Goalkeeper Dan Cimicata protected the Stars’ end of the field with his third and fourth saves through 67 minutes of play before Edwin Lagunas put the Stars on top for good in the 73rd minute with assist from Tovar.
Dominican kept attacking with three more shots in the next 10 minutes, and Logan Marvin extended the Stars’ lead to 3-1 in the 83rd minute by knocking in his fifth goal of the season. Ryan Roberts assisted the goal, bringing his season assist total to three.
No. 1 St. Lawrence 4, Ithaca 0
ITHACA, N.Y. — Junior forward Brian Gilloran scored two goals and assisted on a third to lead No. 1 St. Lawrence to a 4-0 win at Ithaca and a sweep of its weekend series.
The Saints improved to 8-0-0 overall and matched their most productive outing of the season in terms of goals, despite their lowest shot total of the year. The 1-4-1 Bombers also managed the second-highest shot total against the Saints this season with 10, but goalie Brian Abernethy saved all three Ithaca shots on goal for his fourth consecutive shutout and fifth of the season.
Gilloran made a good defensive play to start the Saint offense with the game’s first goal as he intercepted an Ithaca clearing pass, dribbled the ball into the box and fired a shot past Bomber goalie Jordan Gentile for his third goal of the season. St. Lawrence scored again 2:04 later when Gilloran made a one-touch pass through the middle to Sam DeMello, who put away his seventh of the season at 15:37.
