DANVILLE, Va. -- With less than five minutes remaining in double overtime, senior All-American Winston Mattheisen notched the 13th game-winning goal of his career as No. 2 Christopher Newport defeated Averett (6-3-1, 0-1-0) 2-1.

Christopher Newport jumped out to an early lead on the road, scoring just 2:19 into the game. Junior defender Sean Moriarty took a free kick after a foul call that was re-directed by a Cougar defender into the back of the net.

The goal gave CNU a 1-0 lead that they would hold for over 70 minutes. Unable to add to the lead though, despite five shots on-goal, the Cougars found the equalizer in the 74th minute. Kyle Barrow connected with John Thrower for his first goal of the season, on a shot from about 20 yards out.

No. 5 Trinity (Texas) 1, Sewanee 0
SEWANEE, Tenn. 0 -- A late first-half goal proved to be the difference as No. 5 Trinity (Texas) topped Sewanee 1-0 Sunday at Puett Field.

With the loss Sewanee drops to 5-3-1 overall and now sits with a 0-2 conference mark. Trinity improved to 7-0-2 this season, while earning its second consecutive league victory.

After both teams battled each other for the majority of the first half Trinity would go on the attack with under a minute to play. As time ticked down in the opening frame, forward Andrew Soares served a strong pass to teammate Josh Adams, who was waiting at the back post. Adams then tapped home the game-winner past Sewanee keeper Derek Williams with six seconds left to play in the opening half.
