IRVINE, Calif. — UC Davis sophomore Kevin Schulte scored the equalizing goal in the 59th minute, then put away the golden goal game winner in the 98th minute to give the Aggies a 2-1 win against No. 7 UC Irvine at Anteater Stadium in Irvine.
UC Davis moves into a tie for first place in the Big West and are 6-6-2 overall and 4-2 in conference play. UC Irvine drops to 12-4 overall and is also 4-2 in league play.
The Aggies and Anteaters are tied atop the standings with 12 points each. Cal Poly and Cal State Northridge remain in a tie for second place with nine points after both teams lost on Wednesday night.
The goals were the first of the year for Schulte and marks the second straight time that one player has scored multiple goals in a single game for UC Davis.
No. 6 Creighton 1, Bradley 0
PEORIA, Ill. — No. 6 Creighton avoided the first 0-2 Missouri Valley Conference start in school history by notching a 1-0 win against Bradley on a cold, wet Wednesday at Shea Stadium. Andrew Ribeiro’s first-half goal proved enough as the Bluejays dominated the Braves for their 10th shutout in 14 matches this year.
The victory moves the Bluejays to 12-2-0 on the year and 1-1-0 in MVC play. Creighton, which had dropped its MVC opener at Missouri State last Wednesday, has never started Valley play with consecutive losses. The Braves fall to 9-4-2 on the year and 1-2-0 in conference play.
Ribeiro got the Bluejays on the board in the 35th minute, as he took a feed from Jose Gomez and sent a blast past Bradley goalkeeper Brian Billings for what proved to be the only goal of the night. The goal was Ribeiro’s third of the season, all of which have been game-winners. The win was CU’s sixth 1-0 victory of the year.
