SAN ANTONIO — Fifth-ranked Trinity scored a pair of second-half goals to earn a 2-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory against the Colorado College Tigers on Friday night.
Trinity, the defending conference champion, remained undefeated at 11-0-2 and 6-0-0 SCAC. Colorado College now stands at 9-4-3 and 4-3-0 SCAC.
The win also officially qualifies Trinity for a spot in the SCAC Tournament. The tournament will be played Nov. 4-6 at Birmingham-Southern College.
The first half of play was definitely a defensive battle, but Trinity’s Zach Garcia broke the deadlock with a goal in the 55th minute of play, assisted by Brian Hines. It marked Garcia’s third game-winning goal of the season and his fourth overall.
Yuri Ribeiro, who had to sit out seven games because of an injury, put the icing on the cake with his first goal of the season. Ribeiro scored with 11 minutes left, assisted by Garcia and Andrew Soares.
Soares is Trinity’s assists leader, with six, and Garcia has produced five.
Tiger goalkeeper Matt Cardone registered three critical saves in the matchup, earning his third shutout of the season.
