No. 5 Trinity (Texas) survives Hendrix

Tigers erase halftime deficit to defeat Warriors, remain unbeaten

SAN ANTONIO — No. 5 Trinity (Texas) overcame a one-goal halftime deficit to edge Hendrix 3-2 on Sunday in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup.

Trinity, which wrapped up its regular-season home schedule, remained undefeated at 12-0-2 and 7-0-0 SCAC. Hendrix now stands at 7-7-3 and 3-4-1 SCAC.

Senior All-America midfielder Zach Garcia blasted home the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute of play. Sophomore All-American Yuri Ribeiro supplied the assist, his second of the game. Garcia registered his fifth goal of the season, along with his fourth game-winner.

The Tigers struck first as senior midfielder Andrew Soares scored in the 10th minute, on an assist from sophomore midfielder Darren McAfee.

But the Warriors Duncan Keegan scored two goals in the 30th and 39th minutes, as Hendrix led 2-1 going into halftime.

Tiger sophomore midfielder Jeff Hayes evened up the game with a goal in the 66th minute, as Ribeiro picked up his first assist.

Trinity’s offense geared up in the second half, as the Tigers outshot the Warriors 13-4, and 8-1 on goal. In total shots, Trinity led 27-8, and 15-3 on the mark in the game.
