No. 5 Trinity (Texas) dominates Austin

Three first-half goals help extend Tigers’ unbeaten streak

SHERMAN, Texas — No. 5 Trinity (Texas) scored three first-half goals en route to a 4-0 shutout of Austin in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Friday.

Trinity, the defending conference champion, remained undefeated at 13-0-2, and 8-0-0 SCAC. Austin dropped to 5-9-2 and 1-7-0 SCAC.

Zach Garcia opened the scoring for the Tigers, in the 14th minute of play, and was assisted by Andrew Soares. Josh Adams scored his team-best 15th goal of the season, on an assist by Cameron Hogsett, in the 24th minute. Raz Forsten gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead going into halftime, with a goal in the 27th minute. Yuri Ribeiro recorded the first of his two assists.

There would not be another ball put past the keeper until the 74th minute, when Jeff Hayes and Ribeiro provided the scoring combination.

Trinity goalkeeper Tim Nelin accounted for three saves in 45 minutes of playing time. Overall, the Tigers led the Kangaroos 36-7 in total shots, and 15-3 on the mark.
