Comets advance to MIAA championship game with upset
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- No. 4 seed Olivet upset 16th-ranked and top-seed Calvin 1-0 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon at Zuidema Field.

Olivet scored the game's only goal in the 11th minute. Sophomore Adam Wright sent a pass into the box to sophomore Fred Smyser, who trapped the ball with his chest and buried a shot at the near post. Each team finished the first half with six shots, and the Knights held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Calvin turned the offensive pressure up in the second half, as the Knights outshot the Comets by a 10-3 margin. Olivet did, however, have a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks during the second stanza.
For the game, the Knights had a 16-9 edge in shots, but a smaller 4-2 margin in shots-on-goal. Freshman Esteban Russell led the way with three shots, while freshman Camden Iwasko was next with two, and four other players each had one. In goal, freshman Alex Lang collected four saves.
