Luther edges St. Olaf to advance
Block scores in 46th minute to help Norse continue their season
DECORA, Iowa -- Jason Block scored his seventh goal of the season in the 46th minute unassisted, which proved to be the game-winner, in Luther's 1-0 victory against St. Olaf on Sunday.
The victory was a bit of sweet revenge for the Norse after dropping a 1-0 decision to the Oles on Sept. 7.
The victory gives Luther an overall record of 17-3-2. St. Olaf ends its season with a mark of 17-4-1.
Luther advances to the NCAA tournament round of 16.
The Norse are making their sixth appearance in the national tournament and the first under head coach Chris Garcia-Prats. Luther advanced to the round of eight in 1996 and again in 2001.
Luther will face Hope (12-4-3) which defeated Thomas More and Dominican (Ill.) by identical scores of 2-1.
On the other side of the bracket for this sectional, Ohio Wesleyan advanced with a 1-0 victory against Washington-St. Louis; and Ohio Northern advanced with a 2-0 victory against Case.
